BMW's sales chief Ian Robertson believes the X4 will expand the company's customer base.
The new X model in BMW's lineup will look sportier than the X3 with coupe styling and a lower roofline. BMW will follow the same recipe used for the X6 which was envisioned as a sportier X5. Robertson says the company attracted different customers when the X6 came out and he considers this will happen with the X4.
Yesterday we learned from the company's development chief Herbert Diess, the X4 will be launched in 2014. It will be manufactured in Spartanburg, South California where the Bavarian firm will increase production capacity from 300,000 to 350,000 units per year. This is the only place where BMW makes the X3, X5 and X6, while the X1 is produced in Leipzig, Germany and in China.
