Maybach S-Class

[UPDATE] Official interior photos added.

The highly anticipated 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class has lost all of its camouflage in these latest spy shots taken during an official photo/video shoot.

The new generation of the S-Class has been confirmed for a May 15 launch in Hamburg, Germany but we already have fully revealing photos of the car's exterior. Looking smoother than the outgoing model, Mercedes-Benz's flagship model features a generous front grille and LED headlights. The rear lights have also received the LED treatment, while the rear end is considerably sleeker.

Other noticeable styling features include sculpted doors adorned by two powerful character lines, along with a huge glass roof, slender chromed exhaust pipes and cross-drilled brake rotors. Compared to the current S-Class, the new one has more subtle fender flares which improve the overall elegant look of the car.

The regular S-Class will be offered with eleven exterior colors, including three new ones: Anthracite Blue, Ruby Black and Diamond Silver. Based on a leaked presentation, the cabin will benefit from ambient LED lightning, a wood/leather steering wheel, along with a Burmester sound system. Soft-close doors and illuminated door sill plates will also be available, plus two 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and COMAND infotainment system.

Optional features will include a surround view camera, heated and ventilated seats, rear seat entertainment system, six different colors for the Nappa leather and designo leather seats and an Air Balance Package which filters and ionizes the air and dispenses perfume.

As far as technology is concerned, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class will have active seat belts which are power-deployable. These will work together with the PRE-SAFE system for automatic tension before an imminent collision. Magic Body Control is considered a next-gen Active Body Control suspension which will use a camera for detecting road imperfections and if spotted, the suspension will be automatically configured to compensate as best as possible.

Mercedes-Benz plans on launching the S550 4MATIC in October and the S63 AMG 4MATIC a month later. These spy photos depict the standard S-Class which will be followed by two longer wheelbase versions, a coupe and a convertible. The variant with the longest wheelbase will be a replacement for the Maybach 57 and will probably receive the Pullman moniker.

You can always get a hint of what is happening with the S class by looking at the SL class. It is always about a year ahead of the S class, usually you can see the new headlights, albeit that size and major things have to be different because of size. This new S class is amazing. Elegant, long and sleek, the interior is wonderful. They pulled very few things from Maybach, the leg lifts and rests in the back, is the only thing I can see that came from Maybach. The console in the front is completely new. It is nothing like the Maybach. The entire car is new. I really like the new lights, the front does look like a Mercedes but I like it very much. But be sure that almost everything is brand new on this car. They lost a lot of prestige on the 2000 model and even on the 2007 model people did not like the bulbous fenders in the last model. The car lost that long elegant feeling, so they had a lot riding on this model and I think they hit it right on. It is beautiful, long & sleek, high tech to the max and once again there is nothing like it in the world of automobiles. So a job well done and I can't wait to have one. If you have ever driven a Mercedes Benz S class car they are marvelous. A huge car but when you drive them they seem like a race car. It's all in the engineering. They are once again at the top of the heap and no one is even close. They were always there until 2000. I am happy for them. I never thought anyone would ever dislike the S class, but the last two models have not been well received by the auto writers and people in general. They would not allow a 1999 on the lot with a 2000 because the new car was so much smaller. I am excited to see the 2014 in person, which won't happen until Sept, however, sometimes they get one in that can't be sold for a few weeks, so that people can see them. I want a designo version with special paint and interior colors. I was so happy when I saw it. I think it's a remarkable car. Thank You MB... it's good to be king again i'm sure. There will be NOTHING like it on the road. It always takes years for them to catch up when they do this. And one other thing about Mercedes is that they don't put things in their cars that don't work. Everything is tested for years before they include it in their cars. Rarely does a problem crop up, now and then but hardly ever on the S class. And understated is always their path. I really like that about their cars. Nothing gaudy or flashy. CL class is never quite up to S class standards. S class is the flagship. If your a tall person the CL class cars are rather difficult getting in or out of because of the low ceiling. MB has two cars that are their special flagship cars, The S class sedan and the SL they were and are always the two cars that say Mercedes Benz. All the others are mass marketing cars. Those two have always been and will always be, the others come and go. Excellent Job MB

i can't think of any reason anyone would choose a8 over this assuming the person is in a sane state of mind. I bet even Audi employees would still prefer the S if their employer allows.

Funny thing is i see two Audi fans keep replying to comments which say positive thing abiut the new S class and keep saying it looks like a facelift and A8 is better. If this car looks more facelift than a all new then what can you say about the A8? An oversized A4 and it is a fact.

I have to say the rear looks like the next Maybach (if the make was still around), but the overall design is pure class. Elegant, sophisticated, and powerfull at the same time. For me there's only one interior design that competes with this one in this class, and that's the xj from Jaguar. The coupé should be a dream. Well done MB!! The boss is truly back!!

This shows MB has well and truly left behind the dark days of the W220 fiasco. Instead of trying to ride on its reputation and indulge in obvious cost cutting with interior style and quality just to make the accuntants a bit more happy, MB has decided to reward the driver (most often the buyer) for every second they spend in this new car with what is close to a work of art: magnificent. MB, you are back where you belong: at the top!

Hmmm, this needs to be a lot more special than the previous car. Some very prestigious brands are playing in this sector now. Dynamically it will be excellent but I would like to see more than just another German drone. Not forgetting that it is to fill the void left by Maybach. Pretty though.

The S class is beautiful again. Now, between this and the XJ, the choice will be difficult for pure class.
