Hypercar and hybrids not considered by AMG

Hypercar and hybrids not considered by AMG
2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series

“No hyper car from AMG'

Tobias Moers, AMG director of vehicle development, told CarAdvice there won't be a hypercar or a hybrid anytime soon.

Ferrari, Porsche and McLaren can relax for a while as AMG isn't planning a hypercar in the near future. Moers said "no hypercar from AMG", but he did hint at a new model slotted between the C63 and SLS. In addition, we already know a preview (concept) of the SLS replacement will be shown "very soon".

Instead of working on hybrid tech which they say adds weight, AMG will focus its attention on lighter materials derived from what they've learned during SLS AMG Black Series development which will be carried over to lesser AMG models. A lightweight construction and more efficient combustion engines are a top priority at AMG now.

The car business is turning into a TOP 1% vs the rest. You are seeing some really expensive cars that only a few can afford with just a little more speed for alot more cash vs the mass produced vehicles. More traffic congestion and less areas that can take advantage of these hypercars makes them impractical as daily drivers and are definitely an exclusivity purchase primarily. I have had many expensive cars in the past, but a stock 911 was one of my favorites because the power is usable and you can through several gears around town before 100 mph. In other words, "it was fast enough!"

There is a car maker called PAGANI; I believe their engine is by AMG. That's AMG's hypercar. Am being sarcastic.

There is no accepted definition for hypercar. The SLS Black Series can be seen as MB's hypercar. Sure, it can't compete with the latest hypercars to come out, the P1, LaFerrari, etc, but it is definitely decent competition for the current 500 to 600 hp supercars. So I guess the report means AMG is not about to make an 800 to 900 hp car any time soon. That's fine... why should they? Also, new model between C63 and SLS? A ton already exist, I guess they meant between SL63/65 and SLS? And if that's what they meant, why 'hint'? Hasn't the baby SLS (SLC?) been confirmed for a while now?

Hypercars have to make a business case, and really, whilst there is a halo effect, the total return on investment is not that great, unless you can either pinch a lot of technology from more mass market models or alternatively a lot of the hypercar R&D will need to filter to the mainstream...

The CLK GTR was the product of a need for a homologation race car. Until a homologation race car is needed again we won't see a successor.
