Ron Dennis says McLaren P1 will lap Nordschleife in less than 7 minutes [video]

'It's going to be the fastest car in the world'

Ron Dennis made some bold statements this week in Geneva during the presentation of the McLaren P1.

After going through technical specifications of the F1 successor, Ron Dennis started joking about how he slashed 10 seconds off the Top Gear test track record but then he got very serious. If you jump to 7:10 you will hear him say the car was tested at Nordschleife and that it will do the lap in less than seven minutes. He continues by adding "it's going to be the fastest car in the world", a statement which we are sure Ferrari is not too happy to hear.

To refresh your memory, the P1 makes use of a twin-turbo V8 3.8-liter engine generating 737 HP (542 kW) and 720 Nm (531 lb-ft) of torque. It works along with an electric motor providing 179 HP (132 kW) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) for a combined output of 916 HP (674 kW) and 900 Nm (663 lb-ft). It will reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than 3 seconds onto to a limited top speed of 217 mph (350 km/h).

Well, then prove it! I'm sure Ferrari is just as eager as I am to see if McLaren can actually back up those claims!
