Frank Stephenson taking a sneak peek

McLaren's chief designer Frank Stephenson was seen at the Geneva Motor Show photographing the new LaFerrari.

The photo was taken by our colleagues at AutoBlog.gr who were also able to obtain some interesting information from Stephenson. He said the reason why some people don't like McLarens is because their lines and dimensions are deceiving on photos. However, when these people see the real thing they change their minds right away.

He added the McLaren P1 on display in Geneva will appear in Jay Leno's Garage and that three units have been ordered by only one customer (which doesn't seem fair at all, but money talks…). As a reminder, the P1 will be limited to 375 units but probably most of them have already been sold.

More photos are available at the source link below.

I would only say that this is an open market competition so as long as there is no involvement of infringement then it is fine. And for those who always shown their negativity and very critical on their own unlikeliness to goods, in someways it helps a lot to the designer to explore and develop much better that what they had produced. At the end of the day, even all say that LaFerrari is ugly...who cares? Ferrari itself could only say " we already sold all of 499 units out even they are into production yet". They sold again their own newly created stuff in the name of popular brand and exclusivity

If I were a designer e.g at Audi, I'd also take pics of e.g BMW products all the time, trying to understand, amongst other things what makes my competitor so better . :D.

Pathetic! Yea Mclaren learn how to make a true beautiful supercar! So funny to see Mclaren designer drooling over a Ferrari. I wouldn't be surprised if Mclaren redesigns their car, beacuse it's absolutely hideous, like some ugly bug from a science fiction movie. LaFerrari is a beautiful work of art. Those people who say that LaFerrari is "ugly"...meh, haters gonna hate lol. Great job Ferrari! Bravo!

It's not a real Ferrari, that's why they have to call it LaFerrari. Maybe they should call it CoPaFerrari (copy/paste)

And the Asian "designers" photographed every single car, the drapes, the floors and the ducts on the ceiling.

I would probably take a VW over a Huyndai any day but hats off to Huyndai, their designs should be leaving the boring lines of VWs speechless.

He's probably like "Damn, I can't believe how fricking ugly this car is. Let me take some pictures so I can cherish this moment." Personally I'm not a big fan of P1's visuals, but F70 takes the ugliness to the next level and its' ironic that it's coming from Ferrari of all the design teams out there.

Is it really stephenson on the photo?! Doesn't look like him, to me. I'm not really a fan of his designs. For those of you who aren't familiarized with the subject, he worked for Ferrari, about 10 years ago, in the design of the F430, 612 and Maserattis Quattroporte and MC12. But I think his most famous work was the Mini by BMW. I think he isn't the most inspired designer in the industry, and I bet he was taking some inspiration out of the F70 (sorry, I refuse to call it that stupid name Ferrari gave it).

Stephenson is a very decorated designer by now, with a lot of popular cars under his belt. I don't think he's produced a masterpiece yet however.

Frank worked at Ferrari a while ago. If memory serves he penned the F430.

You're right inlinesix. He designed the F430 while he worked at Pininfarina, and I still believe it's one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever made..

P1 is better and yet the chief designer is still taking photos of LameFerrari?? HAHAHAHAHAH LMAO.

This means nothing in determining which car is better. Chances are the chief designer just wants to analyse what design elements the competition are using, and possibly use them in future models.

This is a normal and responsible thing to do. Knowing best your competition is basic management tactics. And speaking of art, it is nothing wrong to admire Beauty.

To admire beauty, there has to be beauty in the first place :). But that's my personal opinion on the LaFerrari.
