Mercedes-Benz to offer illuminated emblem star [video]

German bling

Mercedes-Benz Accessories GmbH will offer an illuminated central grille star for many of its above compact models.

Boasting an optical fiber with LED technology, the white star emblem is lighted only when the car is stationary. The "Illuminated Star" shines when the car is unlocked or the engine is stopped. It also lights up when the door or trunk is opened. Once the door/trunk is closed, the star will go off in 15 seconds.

Already on sale for the M- and GL-Class models, the luminous star will also be optionally available starting next month for the C-, CLS- E-Class models. It won't be available for the cars fitted with Distronic or Distronic Plus. Another requirement is to have the star in the radiator grille. This optional feature costs 300 EUR.

Why is everybody complaining? Cars today are packed with LEDs in their lights and bumpers. I would like it even more if it was always illuminating (discretely) while the car is in operation.

Nice detail. Looks sick. But 300 EUR is bit steep.

I still think the star grill should only be on models starting in the letters SL. SLK, SL, SLS, SLR.

How about a emblem delete option. That 9" emblem is very tacky as is.

Bling-Bling for 300EUR...This should come standard, it`s just LED with optic fiber light diffuser and some circuitry, nothing expensive or complicated!

Because people with taste will prefer a Glowing Star Mercedes more than a "boring" BMW or Audi. LOL ! That's all MB can do ?
