Debuts in New York

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee isn't set to be unveiled until the New York Auto Show, but Jalopnik has managed to get their hands on several undisguised photos of the model.

Looking downright ghastly, the Liberty successor resembles the unholy offspring of a Jeep Grand Cherokee and Isuzu VehiCROSS. Jokes aside, the redesigned model is a clear departure from its predecessor as adopts a distinctive love or hate it design. Notable highlights - or lowlights, depending on your prospective - include a curved grille, slender headlights and acres of plastic body cladding. We can also see a tailgate-mounted spoiler and chrome trim.

While the exterior is highly controversial, the cabin is relatively conservative as it has a symmetrical dashboard with an attractive center stack that features an infotainment system and metallic accents.

Engine options remain unconfirmed, but speculation suggests we can expect a 2.4-liter TigerShark four-cylinder and a 3.2-liter V6. There could also be a 2.0- and possibly 3.0-liter diesel for Europe.

The model is slated to ride on the CUSW platform that underpins the Dodge Dart. Front-wheel drive could be standard, but all-wheel drive will undoubtedly be optional.

Mr Gauthier, you're joking right? This looks disgusting! I liked the boxy design of the Liberty. This would look good in 1999.

Wow, a lot of hate out there for this thing, and honestly I don't think it's that bad. Not great, but what do you expect form Jeep? have you seen the outgoing Compass, or Liberty? How about the Patriot? If i was an American I would take offence to such titles being applied to those designed-by-committee atrocities. This is at least not any worse. The biggest concern for me would be what appears to be a worryingly large panel gap between the hood and the front wing.

Bit of a departure, trying to borrow some Volvo SUV cues and perhaps taking them too far, though decent photos will look better. You shocked Americans will change your tune real quick though, and buy in droves. Wait and see.

With the exception of a few auto makers, it seems to me that too often when redesigning a vehicle, especially trucks/suv's, manufacturers think it best to increase the overall size and shape of the headlights. It was a growing trend there for a while and in many cases still is (see Chevy SS). The 14' Cherokee is not a bad design from what I can tell. However, I think some bias may exist because it doesn't conform to the same design language other domestic trucks adhere to. Give it time. I'll wait until the fully loaded version arrives, instead of just the base level trim, to make a final judgment, but so far, I sort of like it.

For people we kow about Chrysler and Jeep company and how old they are , this is embarrassing in 2013 that theirs designer create something so bad and lack of inspiration , this is disgusting and real embarrassing that Jeep show to the street this monster. Embarrassing. If Chrysler or Jeep doesn't have a great designer just do what Kia and Hunday does , copy and paste from BMW and Mercedes even Audi and the result is better than this thing .
