Nissan has decided to pull out of the DeltaWing project, less than a year after joining the experimental racecar development program.

This decision was confirmed earlier this week by Nissan Motorsport on Twitter, with chief Darren Cox adding the company "wishes Dr Don Panoz and all the other partners involved in the DeltaWing all the best for the future."

SpeedTV is reporting Panoz is developing a new Mazda 1.9-liter engine to replace the Nissan 1.6-liter mill prepared by RML. For the moment this engine has a twin-turbo configuration pushing out 345 hp (257 kW) and 350 lb-ft (474 Nm) at 6,500 rpm. The partners involved in this project are also planning to implement a closed cockpit design.
