2013 BMW 3-Series GT

Arriving later this year

The first official images with the upcoming 2013 BMW 3-Series GT have surfaced the Internet.

The more practical (yet less attractive) version of the 3-Series is about to make its official debut and most likely will be presented at next month's Geneva show. Continuing the trend started with the 5-Series GT, the smaller 3-Series GT will use the same engine as the regular 3-Series and will be available with both RWD and xDrive AWD systems.

The new model adopts a slightly raised seating position and comes with a two-tier rear hatch design which although looks a bit better than the one on the 5-Series GT, it's still not an attractive styling but at least it's more practical.

Yes better than 5GT but still ugly, and what the hell they're doing with these cars, I mean you got wagon and sedan, the mix of two simply cant look good, and that side vent is hideous.

What a mess, worse headlights/ grille; fussy rear valence, usual dodgy GT proportions; confused front bumper; odd surfacing along sides. Yet it will somehow sell.

It's not as ugly as the 5 GT, but it's still ugly. I don't get the point of this GT thing, if you want a versatile, practical and tall vehicle, get a proper SUV, a RR Evoque will be the best bet. And why did they use Gran Turismo to describe something this.....un-attractive.

So we have come full circle with the uglyness. 6er, 5er and now the 3-series. To complete this: Let`s wait for the upcoming BMW-owned RR coupé. Makes you almost wish (I said almost!) for the return of the Bangle butt!

Want a car? Want a hatch? Best of both? Maybe BMW should send its designers on a crash course to the Czech Republic to learn how the lowly Skoda has solved it. Far better than this.

I guess people who want more rear space than a sedan has but don't want a estate will buy this car, although I wouldn't trade looks for just a bit more practicality. Both sedan and estate 3er are beautiful cars, just pick one of that, don't go in the middle and become confusing BMW..

Not bad looking but not exactly upto BMW's standard models.

I wish BMW would just rethink all these nameplate lapses for models that don't fulfill any "GT" criteria (well, aside from comfort). Design-wise not my cup of tea, as it reminds me of my grandmas old Corolla E90 liftback. "The more practical (yet less attractive) version of the 3-Series" ... please explain to me where is this thing any more practical than the Touring?

Fools and haters: Clearly this is aimed primarily at the Chinese market, where the 5GT is actually doing better than anywhere else.

aston, audi, even VW (CC) are doing this 4 door hatchback coupe thing much better, it still looks like it was beaten with an ugly stick.

competition for the A4 Allroad but surely the X1 would cover this segment. I understand its more of a stylish X1 but eish...BMW has gone off the rails here.

So, BMW hasn't learned from the 5GT. I wonder if they'll get rid of the 3 wagon from North America the same way they did with the 5? Personally, I like hatchbacks and wagons, and Mazda did well with their 6 in that regards - this one just looks bad and seems to have missed something elementally (just can't put my finger on it).
