Plymouth Prowler with HEMI V8 6.1-liter engine [videos]

425 hp and 420 lb-ft

Performance Innovations has mounted a HEMI V8 engine in a 1999 Plymouth Prowler.

Defunct automaker Plymouth built the Prowler in the late 90s and early 2000s, ending its short lifespan in 2002 as a Chrysler model after the latter decided to shut down Plymouth in 2001. During this period, only 11,000 units were made and had at first a V6 3.5-liter engine with 214 hp (159 kW) and then a more powerful version of the engine producing 253 hp (188 kW). The engines were connected exclusively to a four-speed automatic gearbox sending power to rear wheels.

The North Carolina-based tuner Performance Innovations decided to inject more power into a 1999 Prowler and they installed a 6.1-liter V8 HEMI engine producing 425 hp (317 kW) at 6,200 rpm and a peak torque of 569 Nm (420 lb-ft) reached at 4,800 rpm.

I saw and thought oh wow!! how great. I have to wonder how small is the man who owns this car. I wanted a prowler, beyond bad when they came out but I am over 6ft tall and I could not get in one,let alone safely drive it, but it is still a beautiful machine.

I don't know what other guys think but for me, the moment this car hit the roads, it was a "shock & awe" moment... I was simply speechless, that's how beautiful it looked to me and it still does today after more than ten years... this Prowler (the name fits perfectly), in 20 - 30 years will surely become a prized collection car, considering the overall production numbers and this Hemi engine... priceless and perfect combination... lean, mean... everything a "bad boy" wants... ;)... PS: too bad that today you don't see anymore this creativity (outside the box thinking), this kind of courage from the car companies, the courage to "boldly go where no one has gone before"... :(

The lack of a manual was worse to me in 2000 than the V6. Absolutely agree. This should be doable from a Challenger.
