Jay Leno shows custom V12 Jaguar E-Type XK-E [video]

Series I looks with Series III engine

A custom Jaguar E-Type is the star of one of Jay Leno's Garage episodes, featuring a blend between the S I and S III models.

Jay Leno is showcasing a heavily modified Jaguar E-Type which borrows some of the looks of the Series I but keeps the V12 engine of the S III. The back of the car and wheelbase are from the S I, while the headlights were also modified to look like those fitted to the Series I. The front fascia has remained pretty much the same as the one on the Series III.

Many people consider the Jaguar E-Type Series I as the most beautiful car ever made. It was available at first with a 3.8-liter and then with a 4.2-liter straight-six engine, while the Series II was available only with the latter. The Series III came out in 1971 with a V12 5.3-liter engine, power steering and better brakes. It was sold as a 2+2 coupe and convertible.

Although the Series III was probably the best car overall, the Series I looked better and was more fun to drive.

The V12 engine of this custom XK-E was tested on the dyno and pushed 375 hp (280 kW). Power is sent to rear wheels through a 5-speed gearbox, while stopping the car are disc brakes on all four corners.

No one cares when it came out. We care about accurate reporting. You don't and that is fine. However, some people actually have standards.

Jay is so awesome. His collection is the evny of men everywhere. And Jags back then were simply gorgeous. Sorta sad to see what they've become today, especially looking back. The series lll model, IMHO, was the end of an era for Jaguar.
