Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept surprises Detroit

Hyundai has officially revealed the HCD-14 Genesis Concept at 2013 NAIAS in Detroit, following last week's teaser.

The stunning concept is a preview of the next-gen Genesis and shows a four-door coupe silhouette. It features an "ultra-rigid" chassis with high-tensile steel in strategic areas, along with a multi-mode power steering system which should enhance the driver-centric experience. Riding on low-profile tires, the concept is powered by the firm's 5.0-liter Tau V8 direct-injection engine connected to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Inside it has a windshield head-up display "sitting" above the steering wheel which keeps the driver up to date with relevant info. The concept also benefits from an eye-tracking and interactive 3D gesture recognition system helping the driver keep his hands on the steering wheel and eyes on the road, thus improving safety by reducing distractions.

As the images show, the HCD-14 comes with rear-hinged rear doors which make entering the vehicle a breeze, not so common among four-door coupes.

This is going to be one of those cars which the production version looks better than the show car. Just waayyy over done with the detail elements. But that's Korean design...designers over do it because that's what the old men sitting on the board likes to see.

Just wonder, for the front like this, are you sure that they are going to pass a crash test regulation?

Hyunday always struggled with their front end design for their upscale models. I recall the many changes to the front of their actually quite nice looking and capable Eqqus model

Holy cow! A bit of unlucky design: the gas and brake pedals are too close together, they form a cow`s hoof profile.

I said it was A7 ripoff earlier (based on the fastback) - I got flamed. Now with Audi front grille inspirations - what do you think? If you remove the lights (front and rear) it's an Audi A7 dead on. Try looking at it without seeing the lights (specially the rear)

When I saw that side profile teased a few weeks back, I thought there is no way Hyundai can ruin that look. I take that back, I try to refrain from saying that is ugly, but the grill is way too big and worse still....90 deg upright. front and rear lights looks like insects. On the positive note, Interior looks nice.

Nice details but they are adorned on a fundamentally ugly car. Some beautiful work inside though. That wall of a nose is hard to comprehend.

The frontend is far too boxy for my takes and the design looks like the A7 was a design template for this model including the front grill. Not impressed at all the Previous genesis was far better looking and unqiue.

Audi influence is certain. But, Audi single frame or not, this is a stunning design from Hyundai, especially that interior..
