Citroen 2CV successor coming in 2014 - report
Citroen C-Cactus Concept

Could be based on the C4

New details are starting to emerge about the Citroen 2CV successor.

Autobild is reporting the model is codenamed the E3 Essential and will be based on the C4. The car will measure approximately 4.3 meters (14.1 feet) long and have styling inspired by the C-Cactus concept which debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Engine options remain unconfirmed but rumors suggest there will be a 92 HP (68 kW) diesel and two petrol units with outputs of 82 HP (60 kW) and 100 HP (74 kW).

A concept could be unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show before the production model is launched in the spring of 2014 with a base price of roughly €16,000 ($21,200 / £13,000).

History has proven one thing: Ever since the Ami6 was launched all carreporters has been shouting "New 2CV to be launched". Let me give you a list of socalled "new 2CVs": Ami6 and Am8, Dyane4 and 6, LN and LNA, Visa, AX, Saxo, C1 thru C3, including Pluriel. To tell you the truth: A 2CV is full of obsolete yet exotic technology, technology that can't be incorporated onto a Peugeot platform. 4 swingarms with interaction, soft suspension, simple yet effecient 2cylinder aircooled engine. Extremely low weight, practical design not based on the "right look". NOTHING can ever replace a 2CV.

2cv based on c4? this is madness...In true spirit of the original 2CV, it should be a fierce competitor for the Dacia/Renault Sandero. With max 1.2 size engines NA/Turbo

The most recent Citroen bearing any 2CV resemblance is the C2 with its curved bonnet and roof line.

What about the first-generation European-spec C3 hatchback? Do you not think that resembled the 2CV more closely?

Ah, no. Not even close. Not in design, execution or spirit. If that is the case, I shudder to think at what they want to sell us eventually as a DS replacement.

What market? The 2CV was supposed to be very affordable... 16 000€ is very expensive which such small engines. Doesn't sound right.
