CNG and diesel versions planned

The facelifted Tata Nano will probably get an 800cc engine, along with CNG and diesel variants which have already been confirmed.

According to Economic Times, the 0.8-liter gasoline power unit will be available in approximately 12 months from now along with a few styling and equipment upgrades in a move to make the car more competitive in the battle with the Hyundai Eon and Maruti Alto. These will be joined in 2014 by a Datsun and a Renault.

The current 624cc engine in the 2012 Tata Nano will probably remain as the entry-level engine for the mid-life refreshed Nano, while the 800cc version is expected to have a starting price of Rs. 2.5 lakhs.

Theoretically, some components of the turbocharger can be rather expensive, make it impractical for cheap cars like this, such as high speed turbine, compressors, high speed bearings, etc.
