Next-gen Jaguar XK to be more premium

Could grow in size

Jaguar's design director Ian Callum says next-gen XK "could grow into the luxury market."

Now that Jaguar has launched the F-Type, the British brand will probably decide to make the next generation of the XK a bit more of a luxury GT while the F-Type will remain as a more dedicated sports car. Ian Callum recognized the chance to "allow the car to become a bit more special than a GT" and admitted the possibility of a growth in size.

While the next XK will probably adopt a new strategy, the elegant XJ will most likely remain the same four-door luxury model even though these cars have started to lose their popularity. The reason for this is because luxury SUVs are now a big hit and are cannibalizing sales of luxury sedans.

Although Callum did not say anything about a big Jaguar SUV/crossover in the lineup, he did affirm the company "had to take notice" of the SUV/crossover sales boom.

I look forward to seeing the next XK, hopefully it finds more buyers in its next generation.

Thank you Captain Obvious? Seeing how close the pricing of the type and xk are as is, this was an eventuality at worst. I hope they make it more gran Turismo than cl-class. As far as the suv thing goes, they need to learn from the American auto companies and not give Jaguar - Land Rover any internal competition. Cool your jets and let your sister company sell its autobiography models.

I agree with you - leave the SUVs to LR and keep Jag as a pure sport/luxury marque. If all dealers are combined JLR, I don't see any need for model overlap.

The XK is a nice car, I like its light weight compare to other heavy coupes but there must be something about this car not attracting enough buyers. Anyway I know that people prefer 6 series and MB CL as luxury coupes but whats wrong with the XK?

There's nothing "wrong" with the current XK...everything else is just better. It was a slight inconvenience at first, but now at the end of its product life-cycle, its just a beautiful way to waste your money...

nothing is wrong with the XK or for that matter Jaguar at present. They just couldn't or wouldn't fight for more market share until fairly recently. Whether or not it proves to be too little, too late remains to be seen, but I'm convinced that in its current shape Jaguar has a bright future ahead of it.
