2013 Volkswagen Golf R revealed [video]

Should have 270 HP (199 kW)

Volkswagen has released a new promotional video for the 2013 Golf R Cabrio.

Looking virtually identical to the concept that was unveiled at GTI-Wörthersee 2011, the production model has an aggressive front fascia, aerodynamic side skirts and a dual exhaust system. We can also see LED daytime running lights, gloss black accents and Talladega-style alloy wheels.

Interior changes are limited, but there's embroidered leather seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel and plenty of R badging.

Official specifications are still pending, but the model is expected to feature a turbocharged 2.0-liter petrol engine that develops 270 HP (199 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. It should enable the convertible to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than six seconds and hit a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).

What's the point to release a VI variation (even as entertaining as a "R" cab) while the VII is on the market already?

It is the last hurrah for the Mk6 Cabrio, which will probably still be on the market for at least another year or so before a Mk7 Cabrio comes out.

Dubbed engine sound and the footage has been sped up. Nice way of keeping it real, VW!
