Not as exciting as the concept

These are the first spy shots with the upcoming BMW 4-Series Coupe production version.

Earlier this month BMW revealed the exciting 4-Series Coupe Concept and now they are getting ready for its production version. Looking a little bit toned down, the 4-Series Coupe will be larger than the current 3-Series Coupe variant and could spawn a four-door version (Gran Coupe), following the recipe used for the 6-Series family. A 4-Series Convertible is also in the pipeline, along with possibly an M4.

Compared to the 3-Series Coupe, the concept is longer, wider and lower. These characteristics will most likely be carried onto the production model that is expected to get a longer wheelbase as well, resulting in more space for rear passengers.

BMW will showcase the concept next month in Detroit, while the production version is expected to come out sometime in 2013.

Come on everybody...give BMW a chance to get us the finished model. I have hope they will get this right. They can not fall on their faces on this one. It's the most important model line they have. I'm hoping it turns out better than this.

Would it be bad form to note that the F32 has already been captured with almost no camo (just masks front and rear) during transport to a photo shoot, and that those shots are available elsewhere on the web?

Makes you hope, that there will be a true to form 3 series coupe down the line. If THAT is indeed the famed "4" series I see no need for it. I am in international automotive marketing for 17 years. Just saying. A big opportunity missed.Hopefully not everything to this model is said and done.

Why do the concepts always look so good.......and then the real thing looks bland and boring?? I am so disappointed in this car as opposed to how excited I was when I saw the original. Oh well, there's always the next generation Audi A5 for me to consider buying. Audi - you messed up the RS5 (not in the looks department but in the performance and weight department), here is your chance to get one up on BMW. Please build a lower and wider car than this.

What you see in the photos is the standard model. M-Sport package should fix that.

Mmm still looks ok but really needs that front bumper from the concept...does just looks like a 3 series with 2 doors makes me wonder why call it 4 if you dont bother making it different like the 6 is from the 5

The M-sport version will probably look closer to the concept. The car in the spy photos appears to be a standard 4-cylinder model (the turbocharged six cylinder models usually have exhaust pipes on the left and right and usually bigger wheels), it's probably a 420i or 428i perhaps. 2012 335i photo: http://www.themotorreport.com.au/content/image/2/0/2012_bmw_3_series_press_10-4e98b1b8982a4.jpg

big windows are an advantage when they don't look bad. that is why driving a camaro is not pleasant at all...

And why the NSX looks great and is one of the cars with good visibility ever... In fact visibility was key in the development of a NSX.
