VIDEO: 2014 Mercedes-Benz GLA spied

Due in 2013

Our spies have grabbed on camera a Mercedes-Benz GLA prototype while undergoing some testing.

It will be M-B's entry-level crossover offering based on the firm's MLA platform that underpins the A- and B-Class models. Naturally, engine lineup will be very similar to those two cars and will probably be topped by a hot AMG version with a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged engine delivering approximately 335 HP (246 kW).

Set to tackle the BMW X1, the GLA will have a sporty appearance heavily influenced by the aforementioned A-Class. Expect to see sweptback headlights, roof rails, tailgate-mounted spoiler, prominent front grille and an increased ride height.

The Mercedes-Benz GLA is scheduled to come out sometime next year in Europe, followed by a 2014 launch in the United States.

Not as radical as the Evoque but already looking far more practical. It just looks a bit too long.

Looks very similar to the Volvo V40.

Nice try at stirring the pot. This doesn't resemble a Volvo except for having 4 tires.

If M-B includes that 2.1-liter 193 bhp turbodiesel in the GLA for the US market--sold! :-)

I thumbed Up you comment cuz': I test drive the Q3, Exterior is acceptable, engine was 2.0 TDi Quattro it was snappy up to 100-110 later on not so fast (even slow) and I found the gearbox to be Slow during the gear changes, I don't know if the S-Tronic is Dual-Clutch but from what I tested it was far from the DSG used in Golf GTI for example.

I agree the engine on the Q3 is good, I also found the gearbox slow on my test drive. Not a fan of the Q3 and your comment on the exterior is exactly right, its acceptable, but thats it...

No I didn't said anything like that, I just said that by knowing how Q3 drives I hope this GLA comes better with that Magic Plush Ride that Mercedes offers.

When did i say i know what it looks like?? I would chose this over the X! because im not a fan of the styling, and the Q3 is nothing special either. If this is going to look anything like the new A-class then yes I would buy one.

Looking good, athletic lines... Think it's gonna be a headache for its rivals. Can't wait to see this new class from MB.
