Fiat 500X crossover surprise reveal at press launch, 800, 05.07.2012

500X and baby Wrangler planned

Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne will soon reveal the firm's plans to produce Fiat and Jeep SUVs in Italy.

These will be manufactured at the company's factory located in Melfi, central Italy. This info could be revealed as early as next week and will include details about the upcoming 500X which will be a replacement for the current Sedici. At the same factory they will also build a baby Jeep Wrangler that will be sold in Europe and United States.

Marchionne wants to increase sales of more expensive cars and introduce 19 new models through 2016 that will be made in Italy. Six of these vehicles will be Maseratis, while another nine will be Alfa Romeos. 15 of all new models will be sold both inside and outside of Europe.

To achieve this ambitious objective, Fiat and Chrysler will invest up to 18 billion EUR in the next two years. Most of the money will go into designing models for the European market.

Fiat's European division is going through a pretty rough patch as this year they are forecast to post 700M EUR in losses but they hope to break even in 2015. However, they already cut the 2014 trading-profit goal by 31 percent to 5.2 billion EUR.
