Arriving next year

A WCF reader was able to take some photos with the Mercedes-Benz CLA. The prototype was photographed in a parking lot in Budapest, Hungary.

Riding on the MFA platform, the baby CLS will borrow its engine lineup from the A- and B-Class models so we should expect a variety of gasoline and diesels with outputs ranging from 108 hp (80 kW) to 208 hp (155 kW) for the regular versions.

The flagship AMG version will feature a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 349 hp (260 kW) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque. Power will be sent to the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system through a 7G-DCT transmission.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA will be manufactured in Kecskemét, Hungary and will be launched sometime in 2013.

Thanks to David for sending the photos!

It would be useful if WCF stated clearly the powertrain layout instead of confusingly using manufacturers' internal platform codenames that all differ from each other. So instead of "MFA platform" you could say it's based on a front-wheel-drive construction. I would really appreciate it if you considered this in the future.

Renault-Nissan engines smaller than 2.0 litre have been reported to be in dveleopment for use in the A & B class entry models. Much as BMW does with PSA small engines in their Mini brand and the 1 series.

And i can tell you it's true ! (i'm french). But i think it only concerns diesel engines. New Renault Diesel Engines are very efficient, reliable... And it only concerns the european engines^^

The basic diesel with manual gearbox will be a Renault engine to keep the price as low as possible. However if you choose the 7-speed DCT it will be a Mercedes engine. It is already like this in the A-Class. But the Renault engine runs very smooth and is also quite efficient.
