Entry-level sports car also confirmed

Maserati CEO Harald Wester has confirmed plans to launch new two sports cars in 2015.

The first model will be the successor to the GranTurismo and GranCabrio. Little is known about the replacement, but Maserati styling boss Lorenzo Ramaciotti said it will be smaller than the current model. He added it will become more like the Jaguar XK rather than a proper four-seat coupe. This is interesting as it could free up space for the luxury-oriented flagship coupe that we reported earlier this week.

Wester also confirmed plans to launch a small two-seat sports car that would rival the Jaguar F-Type and Porsche 911. As we have previously reported, the model could revive the GranSport moniker and has been described as "something like the Alfa Romeo 4C but for Maserati." Slated to feature a carbon fiber monocoque and a powerful V8 engine, the model promises to offer a better driving experience than the Porsche 911 Turbo but for less money.

Maserati has some big shoes to fill for the Gran Turismo' successor since it's such a great looking car.
