2014 Audi RS6 Avant

Goes on sale in Europe next year

Audi will not offer the recently introduced 2014 RS6 Avant in the United States.

In an e-mail sent to Carscoop, Audi North America product communications manager John Schilling mentioned there are "no plans on bringing the RS6 Avant here to the U.S." Although station wagons are not very popular in the United States, this isn't an ordinary wagon and judging by the strong feedback this could turn out to be a mistake for Audi.

We remind you the super wagon comes with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine generating 560 HP (412 kW) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. Power is sent to the quattro all-wheel drive system via an 8-speed tiptronic transmission that enables the RS6 Avant to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Fitted with the optional Dynamic package, top speed is raised at 174 mph (280 km/h), while with the Dynamic plus package it can reach 190 mph (305 km/h).

Regardless of controversies of horsepower, sales impacts and design issues, the fact that it's not coming this side of the Atlantic simply sucks.

I don't have much of an issue with this car, or with the RS4. Preferably, with both the RS4 and this, I would have just the 4 door version, and a manual trams. But this I would not mind driving.

I think there are too many RS's now. I liked when there was just a single RS model in the range. I get that they want to increase their offering, but I think a better approach would be one wagon (RS4), one coupe (RS5) and one saloon (RS6). Get rid of the TTRS and don't do an RS1 or 3.

Actualy it makes more than 560 hp. Audi underrates their engines just like BMW. When Motor trend tested the new S8 on the dyno they got 479 hp on the wheels + 20% driveline loss they said the engine actualy makes 575 hp. So expect the RS6 to make around 600 hp.

It seem very likely to me that the RS7 will make it to the U.S. It makes sense not to offer both here as there is considerable overlap.

Grey car has fog lights - red car doesn't. Grey car doesn't have 'quattro' on grill - red car does. Are they option? Or the're just renderings?

these are not fog lights if you look closely. It's sensors/cameras. And the "quattro" extra grille / painted fenders in the bumper, is an extra option yes.

Makes sense: they don't want this to steal the RS4 Avant's sales. Then again, I'm pretty sure they'll reconsider this if the RS4 sells well. Which I think it will.
