Grand Cherokee Diesel slated for a Detroit debut

Jeep CEO Mike Manley has revealed some new details about the company's future product lineup.

Speaking with Ward's Auto, Manley confirmed plans to introduce a diesel-powered Grand Cherokee at the North American International Auto Show. There's no word on specifications, but the European variant has a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with outputs of 190 HP (140 kW) and 440 Nm (324 lb-ft) of torque as well as 241 HP (177 kW) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque.

The executive also revealed the company will introduce updated versions of the Patriot and Compass in the second quarter of next year.

2013 will also usher in the Liberty successor. Little is known about the model but it is expected to ride on the CUSW (Compact U.S. Wide) platform and could be powered by a newly-developed 3.2-liter V6.

A year or two later we can expect to see the new Grand Wagoneer. Manley said the model is currently under development but declined to elaborate.
