2014 Corvette now available in Gran Turismo 5 as camouflaged prototype [video]

Free download

A 2014 Chevrolet Corvette (C7) camo prototype is now available for free in Gran Turismo 5.

Approximately two weeks ago, we saw a short clip with the new Corvette in GT5 and now the car is officially available as a free download. As you would expect, this is a camouflaged prototype of the C7 which means that we will have to wait until January 13 when the car gets its public unveiling at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

To refresh your memory, the 2014 Corvette will be powered by a new LT1 V8 6.2-liter engine that generates about 450 hp (336 kW) and 450 lb-ft (609 Nm) of torque. This should prove to be enough for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in less than 4 seconds. Fuel efficiency is estimated at 26 mpg US (31.2 mpg UK or 9 liters / 100 km).

DETROIT – When fans fire up their PlayStation®3 (PS3™) systems today they’ll have a chance to become part of Corvette history. Chevrolet and Sony Computer Entertainment America, LLC (SCEA) are giving gamers a first-of-its-kind driving experience by offering a camouflaged Corvette C7 Test Prototype as a vehicle download in the critically acclaimed PS3™ racing game Gran Turismo®5.

Chevrolet and Polyphony Digital Inc., the developers of the award-winning Gran Turismo® franchise, collaborated to provide an authentic driving experience in a seventh-generation Corvette prototype currently available to only a handful of people in the world.

During the creation of the virtual Corvette prototype, careful attention was paid to the tiniest details from the creases and wrinkles in the soft camouflage used to disguise the new design to specific driving characteristics that are currently being tuned and refined ahead of the vehicle’s official debut in January.

“Until now, only the most skilled drivers on the Corvette team have been authorized to push the test prototypes to the limits on some of the most challenging track surfaces in the world,” said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Global Marketing.  “Through this unique collaboration with Gran Turismo, Chevrolet is able, for the first time, to give performance car enthusiasts access to such an exclusive driving experience.”

All six previous generations of the Corvette have been available to players of the Gran Turismo series since the game’s inception and the Chevrolet nameplate remains one of the most popular vehicles to race.  The camouflaged Corvette C7 Test Prototype is immediately available for download through the PlayStation® Store from the PlayStation®3 at no additional cost. It can be driven on some of the world’s renowned race tracks, including Daytona International Speedway and the infamous Nurburgring – one of the track surfaces used in testing to evaluate the new Corvette’s driving dynamics.

Gran Turismo has had many firsts and we’re excited to partner with Chevrolet for yet another – bringing the first-ever Chevrolet prototype vehicle into a racing game,” said Kazunori Yamauchi, president of Polyphony Digital, Inc. “As car enthusiasts, we’re thrilled to give fans this extraordinary level of access to the seventh generation Corvette that otherwise would not be possible.”

The Gran Turismo series has sold more than 67 million games since its inception and remains the highest-selling PlayStation-exclusive franchise of all time.

Chevrolet will introduce the 2014 Corvette on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013. More information and video content is available at www.one13thirteen.com. Enthusiasts can join the conversation about the next-generation Corvette and keep track of new announcements on Facebook (facebook.com/corvette) and Twitter@Chevrolet(#Corvette). I downloaded the DLC today and did some 550pp races at Monza in GT5....the car handles very well and has great brakes. Granted i was on race tires but still the car was a much lower PP value and it still broke and cornered just as good as other cars, M3 CSLs etc etc etc

Downloaded this DLC last night, in terms of the physics involved with this car in the game, it's great for drifting.

Turn 10 Forza actually had that "deal", as it came out on the Horizon cover and PD has Corvette C7 prototype for GT5. It's sort of a competition between two gaming platforms and car manufacturers. But I'm sure the new Dodge viper will be in GT6.

Who knows how far in development they are with GT6 or what plans they are doing currently beside releasing DLC and stuff. Now my fat PS3 just got YLOD yesterday and I can't try out this masked 'vette until I can afford the new slim PS3. :(

Forza may have the Viper now, but im sure some point down the line GT5 will get the New Viper. PD is constantly adding new cars. like the 86 family, the Weider NSX GT race car, N24 GT-R SP8 class race car etc. Im sure in one years time max, we'll get a Viper.
