No surprises

The first official images with the 2013 Porsche Cayman have been released, showing strong Boxster influences.

The design holds no surprises as we have already seen the second-gen Cayman almost undisguised a couple of weeks ago. Essentially a coupe version of the Boxster, the new model adopts a sleek rear hatch and features a prominent spoiler.

Engine lineup will be borrowed from its open-top sibling and will include a 2.7-liter flat-six with 265 HP (195 kW) and 206 lb-ft (280 Nm), along with a larger 3.4-liter flat-six producing 315 HP (232 kW) and 266 lb-ft (360 Nm) of torque.

Full details coming very soon.

It looks great. Much better than the previous version. Porsche have really nailed the styling with the new Boxster/Cayman. But I still have a gripe with having these as two separate models. They had a good opportunity with differentiating them with this model update but they didn't.

I agree...I loved the last gen Cayman but this one was probably designed from the get-go as a coupe and it shows... Now it looks like a baby 911...

the new Boxster and 911 got significant styling update, giving each a new personality. The Cayman is a really great car, but sadly got the least amount of attention to have it's own identity. No doubt its a good looking car now, but looking at it will just remind people that its a Boxster with a roof and not quite the 911. But overall, its a nice looking design.

I don´t think that it was Porsche´s intention to remind people to the 911 with this design...if you like the 911, then buy the 911. This car is ca. 30% cheaper and looks awesome for its price. It shares its identity with the Boxster, as both cars are identical.

What a pity ! New Boxster had so good design critics than Porsche didn't bother finding a real personality to the Cayman. They just did Boxster's copy/paste + roof = Cayman :(

Exactly like they did last time and will do next time, because that's what a Cayman is. A Boxster hardtop.

Good point! Plus the chrome hatch lining on the Boxster is more pronounced, besides that there's not much telling these two apart...

The front bumper is different, as per the last gen Boxster/Cayman. Personally I don't get the way a Cayman costs more than a Boxster... it's the hard top model that costs more than it's soft top version!
