Brabus Widestar for 2013 G63 AMG revealed ahead of Essen debut [video]

620 HP and 605 lb-ft

Brabus has prepared an upgrade program for the 2013 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG.

The modified G-Class will be exhibited at this year's Essen Motor Show which starts Saturday. Power comes from the same twin-turbo V8 5.5-liter engine but it has been tweaked to produce 620 HP (456 kW) compared to the standard 544 HP (400 kW). The torque figure has also gone up to 605 lb-ft (820 Nm) whereas the standard G63 AMG delivers 560 lb-ft (760 Nm).

Other changes include an electronically adjustable Ride Control suspension with comfort and sport modes, along with an adjustable valve-controlled exhaust for a louder or quieter sound.

In this video we get to see how the Widestar G63 is differentiated. It includes a new set of 23-inch alloy wheels, LED illumination for the side steps, satin silver color accents in the side body mouldings, rear bumper fascia and an aerodynamic front spoiler also in silver with integrated LEDs.

Inside the cabin it gets new leather upholstery and improved materials that are available in a wide variety of colors.

I don´t doubt that Brabus makes top notch tuning, upgrades and craftsmanship - I still dislike these overpowered G-wagons, no matter who tuned em. Give me a rugged off road version of this car and you want hear a bib from me. If you really want a tuned/pimped G-wagon by something else, like a tuned Cayenne Turbo S or wait till the new Range Rover Autobiography gets some tuning overhauls. Then you will have a car that can go both fast, handle well, being luxurious and comfortable, having more than enough off road abilities and is built on a modern frame. Yea and the aero dynamic front splitter - LOL! Vid was nicely made, avoiding for a big part to show the dinosaur in full, and the leather and detailing looked awesome. Never the less I will be happy when a new G-wagon enters the arena and these behemoths will be of interest only to 4x4 enthusiasts and collectors, not getting new blinged out nonsense versions in an what seams to be endless stream. Honestly is it really still cool to arrive at the red carpet in one of these? - it´s just so 1999 IMO.

It is so strange to me that these vehicles have 63 in the name but are 5.5L.
