That I would buy but only if they finally leave their current same-across-the-line-design.

Let's see... Toyota has been working on the Prius for 15 years now, it is in its 3rd generation, and gets 50 mpg. So Audi is going to produce a brand new city car model that gets 235 mpg in its first iteration. Am I right to be skeptical?

No one said they are starting now. They will do it once and at their best.

You are wrong to doubt Audi's engineering prowess against someone like Toyota, Audi really knows what they're doing especially with diesels, but you are right to be skeptical of a performance claim this early into somethings development.

@ jimcbride, Toyota spent 8 years in F1 and they didn't win once. Audi entered LeMans and they dominate it. Also a lot of diesel cars already have better fuel economy than the Prius and VW is working on the XL1 for quite some time.

F1 is way more competitive than LeMans. granted, some diesel cars achieve better fuel economy than the prius but, still, in my opinion toyota is more trusted and innovative than audi/vw.
