2013 Volkswagen Bora

Based on the PQ34 platform

Volkswagen has launched in China the 2013 Bora based on the group's PQ34 platform.

The Bora name is still going strong in China where the new model year borrows some of its styling cues from the U.S.-spec Jetta with those angular headlights and chrome inserts.

Power comes from a 1.4-liter TSI gasoline engine producing 122 hp (91 kW) and fitted with the BlueMotion technology that includes stop/start and brake energy recuperation. Those ponies are sent to the front wheels via a standard six-speed manual gearbox or an optional DSG dual clutch transmission.

Inside the cabin there are several wooden and chrome details, along with navigation system and automatic climate control.

Hey WCF, I am a reader from China. As far as I know, this car is essentially a facelifted 4th gen VW Bora, built from a stretched PQ34 platform, not the PQ35 that you mentioned in your article. I know this car well and I've also driven it, so trust me.

From our knowledge, is based on the fifth-gen Jetta so riding on the PQ35 platform. http://es.autoblog.com/2012/11/21/nuevo-faw-volkswagen-bora-2013-diferente-estilo-para-un-clasico/ es.autoblog.com says the same. More tips for you: the Chinese-spec new Bora (codename Model X) shares its platform with the VW Lavida (codenamed Model Y) in China. By using a modified PQ34 platform, these two models could slot between the Polo and the Sagitar, namely the Jetta 5th gen & 6th gen in China. And both of them enjoy a huge success. They are among the top selling cars in China.

Sorry, that does not necessarily mean the Chinese-spec Bora is based on the PQ35. Currently many PQ35-based models are in production here in China. Including FAW-Audi Q3, FAW-VW Golf 6th-gen, FAW-VW Sagitar (Jetta 5th-gen & 6th gen) , and Shanghai-VW Tiguan, Shanghai-VW Touran. Actually, my family owns a 2006 VW Sagitar (Jetta 5th-gen), which is definitely based on PQ35 platform. However, the PQ34 platform did not retire, believe it or not, even the PQ32 platform (VW Jetta MK2) is still in production in China.

@adrian.padeanu, I have found you some pics of the rear axles on the Bora and Lavida. FAW-VW and Shanghai VW has never indicated which platform they use to underpin these two models. However, many Chinese auto journalist reported PQ34 after a careful inspection on the chasssis. Moreover, before their original launch in 2008, there are some rumors shown that VW is using PQ34 to save cost, in order to build a pair of sub-jetta family sedans for Chinese market.
