Three-door Leon to debut in Geneva next year.

The Seat Leon CUPRA will go on sale in early 2014, along with the frugal Ecomotive version. The CUPRA lineup for the third-generation Leon will include the three-door, five-door and estate versions.

The regular three-door is scheduled for a Geneva 2013 debut, while the estate will be shown in Frankfurt later the same year. As for the more potent CUPRA versions, these will arrive in late 2013 or early 2014, according to R&D boss Matthias Rabe.

The design of the Leon Cupra has already been completed and it has been described by design chief Alejandro Mesonero as “stunning”. We should expect to see a lowered ride height, 18-inch alloy wheels, a more aggressive body kit and interior trim additions.

Power will probably come from a 2.0-liter turbo engine with about 240 hp (179 kW) and will be just as fast as the current Cupra R which has a 261 hp (194 kW) 2.0-liter turbocharged engine thanks to a lower curb weight.

The Seat Leon Ecomotive will have “less than 89 g/km CO2 emissions” according to Rabe, who also said that there won’t be any styling changes. Modifications will be limited to technical updates like optimized aerodynamics and low-rolling resistance tires.
