Holding tight to the lead.

Mercedes-Benz is offering heavy discounts to some buyers in an attempt to maintain its lead over BMW in the U.S.

According to a memo sent on October 2 to dealers, Mercedes-Benz offered a program to "VIP customers" for its 2012MY cars that included important discounts. These cash offers included a $750 discount for C-Class, $2,250 for E-Class, $3,000 for GLK-Class, $3,275 for S-Class and $5,000 for GL-Class.

Aside from the price cuts, Mercedes-Benz has introduced a five-payment program for those who bought 2010 models. It refers to waiving as many as three payments if these customers decide to purchase a new or certified used car. According to an e-mail sent to dealers, this deal also allows owners of all types of models (excluding ML450 Hybrid) to skip five payments to either buy or lease a 2012MY or 2013MY via Mercedes-Benz Financial Services.

Through this year’s first nine months, Mercedes-Benz has managed to deliver 5,221 more cars than BMW.

In related news, Mercedes-Benz spokesman Donna Boland confirmed the 2013 S-Class will get a new body style next year.

I bought 17 new cars (C32 AMG being the cheapest,SL65 most expensive)from MB dealer in the last 7 years. Picked up G63 2 months ago, picking up CLS63 next week but I guess I am not a "VIP" for MB since: "You don't qualify for this discount" This is my last MB FOREVER!!!

You are most definitely their Super VIP. They probably didn't offer you the $5,000 discount because it doesnt make any difference to you. Maybe your dealer didnt forward your details to MBUSA. We in Hong Kong don't have these sweetheart deals at all. We get raped by the local distributor pretty badly. The only quasi-offer I recently received is discounts for the soon-to-be-replaced S Class..........

You bought so many expensive cars and you go full crybaby mode on a simple 5000 discount? Sell one of your cars then, or go for the 50/50 deals on micro compacts if you're that keen on saving money.

Why the thumbs down guys? Maybe not pathetic but certainly stupid. Like future sales are gonna be affected by which brand is ahead in sales?

Pathetic is the fact that you guys don't realize that these types of discounts are constantly made by every manufacturer.
