Bugatti developing a 1,600 HP Veyron Super - report
Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport 05.07.2010

Could top out at 463 km/h (288 mph)

With Ferrari and McLaren preparing to launch supercars next year, Bugatti is reportedly pulling out all the stops to ensure the models don't steal the Veyron's thunder.

Automobile Magazine reports the company will introduce an extreme Veyron Super at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Essentially a SuperSport on steroids, the ultra-prestigious model will reportedly feature additional carbon fiber and an upgraded 8.0- or 9.6-liter engine that develops 1,600 HP (1,177 kW). This could enable the supercar to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 1.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 463 km/h (288 mph).

Those numbers sound unbelievable, but the magazine says they are possible because of a 249 kg (550 lb) weight reduction over the SuperSport. This means the car would tip the scales at 1,600 kg (3,527 lbs) and have a power-to-weight ratio of one-to-one.

The Veyron Super could cost in excess of $2.5 (€1.9 / £1.5) million.

since when were Ferrari and McLaren targeting the top speed record or Bugatti's power output? they would've still been as powerful as the standard veyron.

Bugatti to sell a single piece these times have to make special edition of limited edition. That's rather boring and sad. Bugatti stop producing Veyron, leave it in history as a great engineering achievement, let it grow to a legend.

they have to change the looks of the car. you cant sell a car for 2.5 million dollars and have another car parked next to it that is worth 1.5 million $$ and looks exactly like it. the car will not be that special.

I agree, I can't imagine going 0 to 62 in 1.8 seconds. Maybe this will give Top Gear another opportunity to challenge a jet fighter again...

Yes. And the billionaire who buys it will just hide it in his garage, wait some years and out to the auction block it goes, for a couple of millions more.

I was under the impression that the Veyron was reaching the end of its production run and thus on the way out? Now they're developing one with 400 more horsepower and 250kg less weight instead of a Veyron II or something. It'll be interesting to see how close it gets to some of those numbers for sure.

I think it's brilliant. Engineering perfection. And those who say most of us can't afford one, most of people can't afford a new car at all. They sell each veyron with a loss, it is just to show what can be done.

who cares, a car that hardly no can afford, never see it on the streets, afford to repair or insure it. My limit stops at a quarter mil for an SLS Roadster, this car is pointless and uneeded.

This is going to be frustrating for the 1-st generation Veyron owners: almost 600hp more.

And actually, not that far away from 500 km/h also...but then I remember my physics, and something called the square of the velocity when it comes to drag...the fact that tyres have to sustain such speed...you'd only be able to hold the speed for a handful of minutes before your fuel tank runs dry...the heat dissipation / cooling / aerodynamic balance...this is one hell of an achievement if they do it!

This is absolutely pointless, ridiculous, and unnecessary... In the greatest way possible! High Five for rivalry at the top!
