BMW 3-series GT spy video

Testing continues for the more practical 3-Series.

BMW continues testing the upcoming 3-Series GT which is a more practical variant of the sedan that will be launched next year. Just like the bigger 5-Series GT, its smaller sibling will feature a raised seating position and a not very pretty two-tier rear hatch design that will certainly drive away customers, even though BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer has previously mentioned that this model is “considered a volume builder with which we can earn good money”.

The engine lineup will be just about the same as the one offered for the regular 3-Series, including (but not limited to) a turbocharged 4-cylinder 2.0-liter with 181 hp (135 kW) and a more powerful turbocharged 6-cylinder 3.0-liter that produces 300 hp (225 kW). The 3-Series GT will be offered in rear-wheel drive and xDrive versions.

^^no lessons learnt from BMW...fail It still amazes me how short sighted some people are. The 5 GT was a success for BMW. Why in gods green earth would they build a smaller GT if it wasn't. Go look at the numbers of the 5 GT. It is doing quite well for a niche vehicle. This smaller version is there to give customers more choice and individuality, something which is becoming a trend of sorts but also an indicator as to how the market is evolving. The X6 and X1 was viewed as pointless exercises by BMW by many and look how well those models are doing and judging by how popular the 3 series is worldwide i expect nothing short of amazing sales, especially here in South Africa where there's a 3 series on every corner.

Really. It's reported that 10-15% of 5-GT sales are from previous 7 series owners. Once that is figured in I think even BMW acknowledges that sales have been disappointing to say the least.

Well your interpretation of success is different to mine, the buying public and surprising to you bmw. The x6 and x1 were successes but i wasnt talking about those if you want a succesfull niche the merc cls is a perfect example spawning a new class..the 5 series gt hasnt spawned one..... Now for those figures you told me to check http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/industry/bmw-5-gt-sales-disappointing http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=5&ved=0CE8QFjAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.motorauthority.com%2Fnews%2F1060376_bmw-5-series-gt-a-flop-stealing-sales-from-more-expensive-7-series&ei=l1uIUIWQAoaM0AXvkoDoBA&usg=AFQjCNHm1c-q-clFTlnljo2z6rIhG-GjjA
