Sprints to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds.

Sources have informed WCF that the upcoming 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG is going to come as standard with 4MATIC all-wheel drive and will develop 550 HP (405 kW) without the optional Performance Package. It will be able to perform the 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) sprint in 3.4 seconds. The current E63 AMG with its rear-wheel drive configuration produces 525 HP (386 kW) and accelerates from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.3 seconds.

As far as styling is concerned, AMG is going for a very aggressive appearance in an effort to shake the stigma of a glorified E-Class. The front and rear bumpers, headlights and the side skirts will receive some alterations, with the front bumper resembling the Ferrari F430's bumper with big rounded air intakes. The headlights will be a one-piece unit with LEDs and bi-xenon, while the side skirts are completely different and more pronounced, featuring a trim piece that runs along the car’s length.

The 2014 E63 AMG is scheduled to go into production in Q3 2013.

Why not use the AMG 55 moniker for that engine? It has a good standing in the MB-AMG community too? It only cheapens the REAL 63 nameplate going back to the `70. I am not getting into a debate that the (still) actual 6.2 litre is no 63 either I am just saying.

I opened the story to comment derogatorily about what was the big news, since the current E 63 already gets 550 in PP mode, but reading this I am floored. Standard 4Matic? That is significant news, earlier than expected.

so if you are to buy something in the category you can now choose between the m5 with the fake sound system and the e63 with standard AWD. you can ask for the craziest, most useless optional equipment and you ll get it. ask for RWD AND real sound though and you ll get a no. nice...

I agree with you about the M5 but when absloute performance is the goal, AWD is needed to put the power to the ground in a car like that. Burning the tires off is fun and all, but getting to 60 in 3.4 seconds because you have all 4 wheels applying traction is much more satisfying. It's like people who argue that manual transmissions are better than DSG/SMG/PDK transmissions. Sure rowing through the gears in a sea of tire smoke is fun, but in today's business of speed, technology is king. Ford and Chevy still make the cars your after or, if American cars aren't your thing, the E39 M5 is a great alternative.

i respect your point of view but what i'm saying is that they should provide the consumers with the option of RWD or AWD. they offer an optional performance package (which i am pretty sure everyone is gonna order) but no option for such an important issue. there are AWD people and RWD people out there, like me and you. for such an expensive car they should let us choose what we want.

Why did they have to blur out the number plate? That just seems odd....

Wow. Absolutely WOW! A big, 4 door sedan knocking off acceleration times that - if true - will be virtually identical with a Ferrari 458. Just goes to show that you cannot beat 4wd traction off the line. Go AMG!!!!
