Focused on efficiency, not performance

Lexus has been a luxury hybrid pioneer, so it comes as little surprise the 2014 IS will be offered with an Atkinson cycle engine. However, a new report is indicating the model will come with something a little unusual - a turbocharger.

According to Auto Motor und Sport, the IS Hybrid will feature a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with direct injection technology. It could enable the model to consume 4.2 L/100 km (67.2 mpg UK / 56.0 mpg US) and have CO2 emissions of approximately 100 g/km.

If that sounds a little too eco-friendly, the magazine is also reporting the IS will be offered with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that develops 200 HP (147 kW).

hopefully this new design will offer more space, 2.0 turbo would be a good offer considering gas prices, and a manaul transmission would be a bad idea either on IS and IS Coupe.

With that setup, this is set to be the fastest tax-free hybrid on the market. Sweet!
