Averages 44.8 mpg UK

Volkswagen has introduced the Transporter BlueMotion in the United Kingdom.

Designed to appeal to fuel conscious fleets, the model has a 2.0-liter TDI engine that produces 114 HP (84 kW). It enables the van to average 44.8 mpg UK (37.3 mpg US) with CO2 emissions of 166 g/km - an improvement of 7.1 mpg UK (5.9 mpg US) and 32 g/km over the standard TDI model.

There's also a Transporter BlueMotion Technology that features an engine start/stop system, brake energy regeneration and low-rolling resistance tires. It is powered by a 2.0-liter TDI engine that has outputs of 84 HP (62 kW) and 114 HP (84 kW). Both average 40.4 mpg UK (33.6 mpg US) and have CO2 emissions of 184 g/km which are improvements of 2.7 mpg UK (2.2 mpg US) and 14 g/km over the standard TDI variants.

The Transporter BlueMotion Technology starts at £17,290, while the Transporter BlueMotion costs £18,770 (excluding VAT).

With reducing fuel bills more important than ever to cost-conscious van drivers and fleet managers, Volkswagen has introduced BlueMotion and BlueMotion Technology models across the Transporter panel van, kombi and people carrier ranges offering lower running costs, improved fuel economy and lower emissions.

The BlueMotion model offers the ultimate in efficiency in the Transporter range: thanks to its 2.0-litre 114 PS TDI turbocharged engine with a combined fuel economy of 44.8 mpg and emissions of 166 g/km it has a potential range of over 780 miles on a single tank of fuel. These figures represent a 7.1 mpg improvement in combined fuel economy, and a 32 g/km reduction in emissions compared to the standard 84 PS or 102 PS TDI model.

BlueMotion Technology models also offer significant savings in fuel bills, and are available with two 2.0-litre TDI engines offering power outputs of 84 PS and 114 PS. The 84 PS BlueMotion Technology model has a combined fuel economy of 40.4 mpg, an improvement of 2.7 mpg over the standard model, giving a potential of nearly 50 miles further per tank of fuel and a range of over 710 miles.

The efficiency of the BlueMotion Technology models is achieved by using low rolling resistance tyres, Stop/Start and battery regeneration systems as well as cruise control. The BlueMotion model also has a tyre pressure warning light to avoid tyres becoming under-inflated and increasing fuel consumption.

Transporter BlueMotion and BlueMotion Technology models are available with prices starting from £18,770 (plus VAT) and £17,290 (plus VAT) respectively.
