The Aesthetics S sculpture didn't receive a lot of attention at the Paris Motor Show, but Mercedes is taking the news in stride as head designer Gorden Wagener has explained what the concept foreshadows.
Designed to preview the 2013 S-Class, the Aesthetics S is a cross between a "three dimensional sculpture and an audio-video art projection." Wagener goes onto explain that "Everything we do, obviously, has a reason" and the sculpture shows the future aesthetics / styling language for large cars.
As previous spy photos have shown, the 2013 S-Class will have an evolutionary design with a larger grille, a sculpted hood and LED-infused headlights. There will also be sweeping lines, a dual exhaust system and CL-inspired taillights.
We can expect engine choices will be shared with the rest of the Mercedes lineup. There could also be a plug-in hybrid variant with a 3.0-liter V6 petrol engine and a 60 HP (44 kW) electric motor.
