Mazda is in the midst of a major product revamp and new details are starting to emerge about the next-generation Mazda3.
Car & Driver says the model will be introduced in late 2013 or early 2014. It will feature restrained styling, but we can expect it to have a family resemblance to the new Mazda6 and facelifted CX-9.
Engine options remain unconfirmed, but U.S. models will likely be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 155 bhp (116 kW). There could also be a diesel as well as a high-performance Mazdaspeed3.
Little else is known about the Mazda3, but it will reportedly ride on the same platform that underpins the CX-5. This could enable the car to weigh hundreds of pounds less than the current model.
