Set to debut sometime next year

Our spies have managed to snap new pictures of the 2014 BMW X5.

Looking larger than its predecessor, the prototype is heavily camouflaged but appears to have an evolutionary design with a prominent grille and a sloping roofline. We can also see a tailgate-mounted spoiler and a dual exhaust system.

The luxurious interior is appointed with leather upholstery, wood trim and metallic accents. There's also a three-spoke steering wheel and a large iDrive display.

Engine options remain unconfirmed, but choices could include a 2.0-liter diesel with 245 hp (183 kW / 248 PS), a 3.0-liter diesel with 302 hp (225 kW / 306 PS) and a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 with 402 hp (300 kW / 408 PS). There could also be a hybrid variant with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter engine and an electric motor for a combined output of 335 hp (340 PS / 250 kW) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque.

I know it's still early days but it doesn't look to me like it'll have the squat-like sporty stance of the current X5.

The infotainment screen in the middle reminds me of audi's MMI in the A8.

Why doesn't it remind you of BMW's own in the 6 series?

As opposed to people who buy MB because they want to be seen driving a MB. The MB can't handle as well as the X5 and is very top heavy.

As opposed to buying a car instead of an SUV (oh, excuse me, SAV)?

It's all personal preference when it comes down to ML and X5. In terms of exterior and interior design, it's hard to judge as the ML just got a redesigned and we have to wait until this new X5 to come out to see. And the rest is simple, take the ML if you want comfort. Take X5 if you want a sedan like handling feel.

everyone should care about handling in every car. Lets see you sway to avoid something while going 60mph on a ML and see how nice it will flip on its roof.

Why not the updated 450hp 4.4 V8 engine? From the new 750?

it says engine choices unconfirmed, but sometimes with SUV, they need the engine to produce more torque at low rpm rather than just pure high hp.
