Volkswagen Golf VII R spied without camo

Volkswagen Golf VII R spied without camo
Volkswagen Golf VII R spy photo 13.09.2012 / Automedia

Follows the same recipe as its predecessor.

Unlike the previous spy photos we've shown you with the upcoming Golf VII R, these new ones reveal the car in all its hot hatch glory. As you would expect, it will be distinguished from the regular Golf by the more aggressive front fascia, a center-mounted dual exhaust system (unlike this prototype) and aerodynamic side skirts. Other goodies include a high performance braking system, a sport-tuned suspension and 19- or 20-inch alloys.

As far as the interior cabin is concerned, it will probably feature sports seats, a bunch of carbon fiber accents and a piano black trim.

The all-wheel-drive Volkswagen Golf VII R will be motivated by a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine good for 280 hp (208 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. It should be able to perform the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in “less than six seconds”, before hitting a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

Why don't the R get the 2.5T engine from the TT-RS?

Quad-exhaust for a four-pot engine... this is just ridiculous

Boring? Maybe. Eventually, it's a matter of taste. Anyway, they still sell their "boring" cars like hotcakes...

WOW, the word "boring" has not been reiterated yet. VW must be doing something right.....for a change!

If this is hot for them than the GTI will be dull enough for grandfathers and grandmothers to drive. The previous one was more agressive and this looks like a stock one with some aftermarket bumper that has larger air intake. No emotion at all

Who cares if KIA looks better and more modern. I don't, cause VW make just a perfect cars with best performances.

True. But sometimes Kia models are inspired by other brands' design.

Hmmm with the new carbon parts which they will use in the GTI sure this thing with 280 is going to be as fast as a 320 hp car!

Why not? If the New GTI is going to be 200 kg lighter so sure they will use carbon fiber in the R also, saving 200 kg in a car this size is impressive and will make it very fast despite having 280 hp only.

Very light? The last one weighed over 3,325lbs. That's not pretty heavy. That's FAT. I hope they lighten the next one by keeping it under 3,000lbs. Small cars like this has no business being heavy.
