2013 Opel Astra Cabrio spied with top down [video]

Development of the new Opel Astra Cabriolet is running in top gear ahead of its scheduled unveiling at the Paris Motor Show next month. This brand new spy video showcases a recent prototype that was caught doing the rounds at the Nurburgring circuit in Germany.

Engineers have diversified the product from its predecessor by removing the retractable hard-top and replacing it with a lighter and less expensive soft-top canvas roof. The design meanwhile, will mimic the look already worn by the sedan, hatchback and station wagon body styles.

Engine options will also carry over from its siblings which could include four gasoline units ranging in power from 100 hp (74 kW) to 180 hp (132 kW) and three diesel units generating from 95 hp (70 kW) to 130 hp (96 kW).

Production is confirmed to commence at the company's facility in Gliwice, Poland with the first units set to arrive in dealerships during 2013.

This looks a bit much PSA-ish. This car could very much have the lion badge in the front.

The body of the car is oddly proportioned.

yep, smaller engine compartment, more aerodynamic windshield, makes the passenger area look huge compared to the front. The problem with this Opel is that it arrives too late in the Astra life cycle. It becomes a previous model cabrio too soon. Same like Golf of caurse.
