Toyota details the JDM 2013 Auris [video]

JDM 2013 Toyota Auris detailed.

At the beginning of this week Toyota released a batch of photos and some preliminary information about the international version of the all-new Auris, and now they did the same thing with the domestic variant. As far as the styling goes, there aren’t any changes to mention, but the JDM Auris sold in Japan will be a bit different from the one sold in the rest of the world.

The engine lineup will consist of two 4-cylinder gasoline units, a 1.5-liter and a larger 1.8-liter power unit. The first one produces 107 hp (79 kW / 108 PS) for the FWD model and 103 hp (76 kW / 104 PS) in the AWD configuration. This engine is only available with the company’s Super CVT-i gearbox while for more money it can get the stop/start system.

The bigger 1.8-liter engine is offered only for the FWD model and pumps out 140 hp (104 kW / 142 PS) in all the trims of the JDM Auris except for the RS Grade where it is offered with a sports exhaust system that increases the output of the engine to 143 hp (106 kW / 145 PS). This power unit can be linked to either a six-speed manual transmission or the aforementioned Super CVT-i.

In its domestic market, Toyota hopes to sell 2,000 units per month, with prices starting from 1,710,000 Yen for the entry-level model and going all the way up to 2,250,000 Yen for the high-end version.

Didn't like it at first, and criticized it accordingly, but now find myself thinking otherwise. Toyota Japan will be selling it through their Netz brand, and I'll be they'll sell lots and lots of them. Same goes for Europe: Those who like their Toyotas will choose the new Auris over a Golf. The Auris is definitely more youthful in appearance and attitude.
