Maybach 57 left for dead in a parking lot [video]

An abandoned Maybach 57 found in a parking lot by a YouTube user.

YouTube user Marchettino has found an abandoned Maybach 57 in a parking lot on the French Coast. He says that the half a million dollars luxury car has been in that spot for approximately four years.

Taking into account how much dust is on the car, it's been in that place for a very long time. As you can see from the video, the Maybach emblem is missing while many people have left their autographs. Looks like the air suspension has giving out as it appears the vehicle is sitting too low, while Marchettino says that the back tires had a very negative camber.

As a reminder, the Maybach 57 came out in 2002 and it has a huge V12 5.5-liter twin-turbo engine that develops 550 hp (410 kW / 557 PS) and a peak torque of 663 lb.-ft. (900 NM), enough for a 0-62 mph sprint in 5.2 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h), despite the hefty 2,735 kg (6,029 pounds) curb weight.

Any ideas why it was abandoned ?

I can actually tell you the background of this: peterjames7 is pretty much on the mark, this car was last owned by Alexander Surin, a Russian drug dealer arrested about 2 years ago. However, the word is he did not buy that particular car - it was given to him as part of an earlier debt settlement. He also had a taste for all sorts of toys...and he should be able to pick that car up around 2035...

The owner realised his 400k euros Maybach was actually based on a 100k Mercedes S Class ? Or is it the air suspention broke and then he dumped it ?

Yes, like when Audi owners realize their cars are based on a Volkswagen.

They do share common things but at least their design is different and interior better. And a 10k difference is not much for what you get on top. If Maybach failed obviously Mercedes did a very bad job marketing and selling it.

The owner realized that the joke was on him when he bought that re-badged out dated Mercedes Pullmann.

I think the owner realised it handled like a ship, while using even more fuel in the process.
