Could have a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine

New details are starting to emerge about the 2013 Audi RS6 Avant.

According to Autocar, the estate will feature the company's new twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine. It develops 520 PS (382 kW / 513 hp) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque in the S8, but sources are indicating it will produce 580 PS (427 kW / 572 hp) and 699 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque in the RS6.

The engine will reportedly be connected to eight-speed automatic transmission or new seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. We can also expect an all-wheel drive system and an active rear differential with torque vectoring technology.

If everything pans out, the RS6 should be able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than 4.5 seconds.

Wagons don't handle mate. This is meant for autobahn cruising. Not track day shenanigans.

The thing I love about the RS6 Avant is that it always looks like its carved from a block of granite (although often times it seems to weigh as much, lol) with no need for all the baubles and bolt-ons. No other uber-wagon has the same degree of presence. It'll go and stop fast, hopefully it handles well.

nice to see they were able to put as much hp as the previous model with two less cylinders and 1200cc smaller engine... this car will most likely do the 0-100 faster than 4.5 as the engine is smaller so less heavier and because of the weight improvements of the chassis and body of audi. Same engine allows the new s8 to do the 0-100 in 4.2 seconds with 520hp not 570...

Nice to see they're still working on a super-wagon. Too bad it's probably not going to reach North America. Just because it's a wagon doesn't mean that it's going to be far behind the sedan, but it'll guarantee it'll be far ahead of any damned SUV.

the rs5 and tt-rs's came to the north america this year and rumors are going on about the rs4 as well. I would guess the chance is not too low as it is the biggest competitor of the m5 which sells good in the us

With 572 bhp, shouldnt the car be accelerating sub 4 seconds? Either way, its going to be a beast.

Dont worry, its going to be fast, very fast. Sedan will be much faster. Think dude, how fast a new Audi RS6 is, and the RS7. The S7 is this fast, and the S6 is faster than S7...http://www.autozeitung.de/auto-einzeltest/audi-s7-sportback-2012-im-test
