Could debut sometime next year

New details are starting to emerge about the 2014 Toyota RAV4.

According to Car & Driver, the model will feature styling that is heavily influenced by the Camry. Despite this change, the crossover is expected to ride on an updated version of its current platform.

Engine options will likely carryover, so expect choices to include a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 178 hp (133 kW / 180 PS) and a 3.5-liter V6 with 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS). Thankfully, both will be connected to a new six-speed automatic transmission which can be paired to an optional all-wheel drive system.

Toyota's conservative design philosophy of tasteful, very little daring, bold head turning styling provides the consumer a tasteful product that will last the ever-changing tastes of consumers but does not stir the soul. It seems the soul-stirring job has been handed to the Lexus division. On the other hand, this vehicle will continue establishing its reliable and superpractical features and avoid alienating old Ford Escape owners with an outlandish look that turns out to be catfish ugly.
