2014 Mercedes E-Class facelift spy photos 23.07.2012

The slow camouflage strip tease for the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class facelift continues.

These latest spy photos show a little more of the completely revamped front end. Changes include a dramatically revised lower grille, new hood and bumper, but probably the most dramatic change can be seen in the headlamps.

Gone are the dual diamond shaped units in favor of a single lamp housing which appears to resemble those found on the current C-Class. The rear end will receive new taillights and a restyled bumper fascia as well.

The media reveal is expected this autumn followed by a market launch in January 2013.

Have they gotten rid of the quad-style lamps? The new one looks like a single-piece unit similar to the streamlined ones found on post-facelift C-Classes.

Only changing the front is not enough for the E class. The over all shape is too boxy.

To be honest, I just wish they could ditch the "pontoon" fenders and column mounted shifter. These details are at odds with the complete design. This design is trying to be too sporty and also old-school and classic at the same time. Non-cohesive elements in this execution.

Hate to see the quad headlamp treatment go. It has been a great styling cue that was distinctive. Nobody wants a design that mirrors the C-Class or S-Class nose. The E-Class has a personality all its own. The front end was part of the charm. I have an E500 now. Me and my wife love the styling and we get tons of compliments. But, I know time marches on.

Okay about the headlights...It saddens me. The reason I say this is because who wants to pay a butt load of money for the car and five or six years down the road, have it look like a senior citzen with severe hazed over glaucoma. I see so many cars out there today, that because of this new technology in headlights , that have the hazed over lights , which in my opinion, are very dangerous, but hey what do I know.
