The 2013 Mercedes S-Class has come out to play once again and the prying eyes (and lenses) of our spies were there to catch the moment. The model is entering its final stages of development as it gears up for an unveiling later in 2012.

Despite the frustrating camouflage that wraps the car's exterior, the high resolution shots still allow a close inspection of some of the finer styling details. The evolutionary design update features a front fascia boasting a familiar grille along with a completely remodeled lower bumper and new LED-infused headlights.

Dimensions appear slightly larger than the predecessor which should allow additional space within the cabin. There is also expected to be a new high-tech dashboard that will incorporate two large LCD displays, one of which will replace the driver's analogue dials while the central display will control the infotainment system.

A range of V6 and V8 units will populate the engine line-up and it will also include plug-in hybrid variant with a 3.0-liter V6 petrol engine and a 60 hp (44 kW / 60 PS) electric motor.

Looks quite bland (especially the side doors) compared to the renderings that are circulating. Also, If this is to be a 2013 model and they are still doing hot weather testing, when is production going to start??
