Volkswagen are following the Golf R Cabrio Concept that graced the Wörthersee 2011 stage with a full production version and here is the model in action on video for the first time.
The high performance model was busy testing nearby the Nurburgring circuit. It is wearing the body of the GTI version but the trademark Golf R Talladega-style wheels give away its true identity.
Final production styling will include a more aggressive front fascia, a sport-tuned suspension kit, high-performance brakes and an upgraded interior as well as centrally mounted dual exhaust pipes.
Power will be drawn from a turbocharged 2.0-liter petrol engine that develops 270 PS (199 kW / 266 hp) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. Initial reports suggest we can expect the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than six seconds before hitting a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
The Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet is likely to arrive on the motor show circuit at the Paris Motor Show in September.
