Cadillac files for LTS trademark - hints at XTS successor?

Could be Omega-based

Cadillac has filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to use the LTS moniker on an upcoming model.

This doesn't necessarily mean the company will actually use the name, but Car & Driver points out that General Motors is pretty conservative when it comes to trademarks. Unlike BMW, who trademarks everything under the sun, General Motors has a tendency to file paperwork for names they intend to use on production models or concepts.

As such, the magazine speculates the name could be used on the rear-wheel drive sedan that will replace the XTS. It will likely ride on the Omega platform and slot somewhere between the BMW 5- and 7-Series.

They should have a naming scheme that explicitly communicates the scaling of the models' classes. Mercedes can get away with it because all classes are well established. This is just confusing, its hard to recall what model is what--if there isn't an easy way to categorize them.

Good news. I would like to see Cadillac offering a full range of Automobiles, from limousines down to a nice Golf sized hatchback.

I am confused with a line up, can smb give me a hint? XTS replaced STS and compete with Audi A6 LTS is going to compete with A8 so, CTS is opponent to A4? Quiet big enough.

ATS competes with the similar sized A4, 3-series, C-class, IS etc the CTS which will grow slightly bigger will compete with the A6, 5-series, E-class, GS etc. Unlike the ATS and CTS which are luxury sports sedans, the XTS is a modern version of a full-size luxo barge, it does NOT compete directly with the A8, 7-series, S-class, LS etc.
