Apple announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco their voice recognition software known as Siri will be integrated into the vehicles of Audi, BMW, Chrysler, GM, Honda, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes Benz and Toyota.

The Siri software application that is currently used on Apple's devices such as the iPhone and iPad recognizes natural speech. When integrated into a vehicle, the Siri application renamed "Eyes Free" will allow drivers to give voice commands and access all Siri functions such as selecting and playing music, hearing and dictating text messages, get directions, find calendar information and making calls - all hands-free of course with the exception of initially activating Eyes Free by pressing a button on the steering.

Eyes Free will be released in Apple's latest version of iOS this fall. Eyes Free is expected to start appearing in new car models within the next year.

How does it differentiate between normal speech and an actual Voice Command? Anyway, I like this...I'm so happy that some of Star Trek's technologies are becoming reality...now if we can just fix the Anti-Matter leakage issue on the "Dilithium Crystal Chamber" for the Main Warp Drive...last time it blew up it took a whole space station with it...Ensign Wesley Crusher died in that explosion...what a pity.

I don't understand this - for months now I've been using the factory fitted Bluetooth in my insignia to write texts and select music using Siri. What's new about this?
