Apple announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco their voice recognition software known as Siri will be integrated into the vehicles of Audi, BMW, Chrysler, GM, Honda, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes Benz and Toyota.
The Siri software application that is currently used on Apple's devices such as the iPhone and iPad recognizes natural speech. When integrated into a vehicle, the Siri application renamed "Eyes Free" will allow drivers to give voice commands and access all Siri functions such as selecting and playing music, hearing and dictating text messages, get directions, find calendar information and making calls - all hands-free of course with the exception of initially activating Eyes Free by pressing a button on the steering.
Eyes Free will be released in Apple's latest version of iOS this fall. Eyes Free is expected to start appearing in new car models within the next year.
