2014 Audi A4 to have muscular styling, improved aerodynamics - report
2012 Audi A4 - 26.10.2011

Plug-in hybrid variant could have 50 km EV range

New details are starting to emerge about the 2014 Audi A4.

In an interview with Auto Motor and Sport, Audi design chief Wolfgang Egger said the next-generation model will have muscular styling and improved aerodynamics. He also revealed the car will feature an upright "three-dimensional" grille as well as better defined wheel arches.

Engine options remain unconfirmed, but choices could include a 122 PS (90 kW / 120 hp) 1.4 TFSI, a 180 PS (132 kW / 178 hp) 1.8 TFSI and a 2.0 TDI with 150 PS (110 kW / 148 hp). Additionally, we can expect a plug-in hybrid variant with an electric-only range of approximately 50 km (31 miles).

Anybody notice that it's an Audi post and Jorge_has_A3TDI hasn't posted?..............

I have checked this post few times and that's exactly what is in my mind lols. And I have to admit, I like the current facelifted A4, it is clean and smartly proportioned, even better now it has identical face to A5 :) One aspect, it needs to improve, is getting rid multitronic from some engine ranges and replacing it with either torque converter 8spd AT or DSG.

My guess is because the post is about the A4 and not the A3. I am staggered mind you that Audi still touts that CVT Multitronic. OK, so I see how it works for fuel efficiency, but it's so dull and takes away from the experience. As you mentioned, the DSG or new AT's would be much better.

if audi wants to retail that full size grill they need to complete rethink it because it is starting to generate the generic syndrome

Why? For designing the Alfa Romeo 8C, and the A7?

Wrong, A7 is designed by Stefan Sielaff who should be ashamed of himself, Wolfgang Egger has done a great job with 8C Competizione, you cant even compare the looks of ugly A7 with 8C.

I bet soon we gonna be having an A4 Gran Coupe. You can bet on it,the Merc will also extend the C-Class coupe to bring about a Gran Coupe as well. Basically what am saying is am looking forward to this 3 series competitor but our buying trends and tastes are changing.

I cannot wait to see Wolfgang Egger's own personal line-up will look like, if his creations are anywhere near as groundbreaking as Walter de Silva's, then Audi's design department will probably be the most progressive I've seen in the last 10yrs. I couldn't have thought of anybody better to replace de Silva than him.

cars like this should come standard with a powerful engine. imagine pulling up a stop light and a sonata 2.0T leaves u in its dust even after copying your engine badge...

For company car, the smaller engine and less emission will attract tons of new buyers from mid-size sedan. Though I'm not keen with the introduction of 1.4 TSI, it will directly rival Passat and that's not good.

Audi A4 (2005-2008) is the one and only A4 that I like, it looked original and muscular, unfortunately not anymore because today thats a rebadged Seat Exeo, I hope the new one will radicaly different, not some soulless product of Volkswagen group.

Muscular on the outside...absolute puss' underneath with FWD and tiny engines. V8 RWD is always the 'ish!

I want Audi's exteriors to be as stunning as their interiors..... They all look the same. Boring! If they designed body styles like interiors they would kick all their competitors butts!

Well the A5 still looks great, which still makes me wonder why would one by an A4 rather than the A5 ?

Could not agree with you...........ANY MORE!!!!!!! I wish every car was RWD! But again, it's the boring FWDs that make RWDs interesting! Hahaha

Audi won't ever make any of their road cars RWD unfortunately. Their hook is economical FWD cars with the higher powered cars having their excellent Quattro system possibly with a rear bias. It's about the only thing that makes them unique. Can't argue with it either, but hey, that's the way it goes. Would be nice to see a RWD Audi.

VW doesn't have a RWD platform to re-badge as Audi's. (Except the Panamera that is...but that's digressing from the subject.)
